Favorite Things
After a week and a half of our trip, I have finally discovered my favorite places and experiences in London.
The Sights:
The city’s sights are breathtaking, especially at night. One of my favorite spectacles was the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. The crowd was massive, but a group of us managed to get to the front of the gate to watch the ceremony unfold.
Oxford:
Our class also took a wonderful day trip to the University of Oxford. We were able to see the college in which the inspiration for the main hall in the Harry Potter films was based.
Billy Elliot:
This past Saturday night, I went to go see Billy Elliot the Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre. All the music was written and produced by Elton John. This was one of the best musicals I have seen in a long time. The British sarcasm paired with great music and dance numbers made for a very entertaining night.
Covent Garden:
Although we only spent a short afternoon at Covent Garden, it was one of my favorite locations in London so far. As soon as we stepped off the tube we were greeted by an open air market and street performers. I plan to go back before we return to the states.
Banksy:
Famous street artist, Banksy, created a brand new piece during our visit to London. It was amazing to be able to go, search and find the new “Banksy” within days of its creation.
Harrods:
This department store was unlike any mall I have ever experienced. Complete with pet day spa and toy kingdom, Harrods has something to offer everyone. I was very excited to have to opportunity to see the Queens Diamond Jubilee crown window display.
Flat & Flatmates:
I also will miss my flat and all of my flatmates. This experience wouldn’t have been the same without them!
