Halfway Point
Interim Capstone & Preparation
Almost There
Just 3-short weeks left before we say goodbye to little old Kent, Ohio and hello to London, England. A year ago, I would never have envisioned myself finishing up my junior year of college and embarking on this journey to Europe. The semester has been a wonderful learning experience. I have led a team of young advertising professionals in a national student competition (NSAC), in which we prepared a campaign for Nissan, targeting multicultural millennials. I have promoted four major concerts for the Undergraduate Student Government Programming Board. Each show attracted over 3,000 Kent State students. I have taught myself to work on anything and everything that will put me above the competition when looking for an entry-level position.
Now, for what I have learned in Global Ad & PR specifically:
My chosen area of expertise
I have learned that the creative brief is evolving with the digital medium. Some agencies are creating briefs in the form of interactive websites. These sites make linking through to alternative resources much easier. The point of this is to allow the creative team to start thinking in the digital realm.
The UK perspective
Through my fellow classmates’ presentations I have learned about the City of London and its surrounding neighborhoods as well as popular tourist attractions throughout the area. I have also learned about how to take visually appealing photographs, courtesy of David LaBelle. Finally, I have learned tactics on how to effectively budget when we embark on our journey to the U.K.
What I have learned about myself
This semester, I really narrowed in on an area of expertise that I enjoy learning about. This knowledge of the digital realm is something I will take with me to internships and jobs in the future. I have learned that as long as I continue to work hard each step of the way, success in the industry will follow.
I cannot wait to expand my knowledge and connections on a global landscape. Only 16 more days are standing in my way from the trip of a lifetime.
