Top Ten Travel Destinations in London
1.)The London Eye
A 40-minute trip on the tallest wheel in the world. The Eye reaches a height of 443 ft. This trip allows you to enjoy breathtaking views of London from high above the River Thames. There is also a champagne service and opportunities to host events within your own personal capsule. I am ready to toast to my first trip to Europe with my classmates.
2.)The Changing of the Guard
Buckingham Palace has been the home of the British Monarchy since Queen Victoria took up residence there in 1837. It is only open to visitors in the Summer, but the Changing of the Guards draws crowds all year round. Look out for a raised flag: it means the Queen is home.
3.)Camden Market
The Camden Market is made up of six markets located near one another. Today, the markets sell a wide range of exciting goods, from arts and crafts to street fashion. There really is something for everyone. I will definitely be setting aside some "souvenir funds" in preparation for visiting Camden.
4.)Tower of London
The Tower has taken many different roles within it’s 900 year past as a royal palace, prison, armory, and zoo. This historic landmark’s bloody past and the Crown Jewels make it an exciting major attraction of London.
5.)Tate Modern
London’s international museum of modern art. The museum has 100,000 square feet of galleries, which house a collection of modern art that is arranged thematically. I plan to go on a free guided tour, as well as play around in the interactive areas of the museum.
6.)The Harry Potter Film Locations Tour
Award winning company, London Walks is known for its authentic guided walking tours. This tour takes you through the film locations of Harry Potter. The locations also happen to be great historical buildings of London: the Bank of England, Mansion House, the wonderful Leadenhall Market, and much more. This tour is a perfect mix of history and Harry Potter.
7.)The Chelsea Flower Show
The show is the most famous flower show in the United Kingdom, attracting visitors from all over the world, not to mention well-known celebrities and royalty. This year the show will be held on May 22-26. The committee has included new areas, food courts and restaurants for the 2012 show.
8.)Lamb & Flag
This pub is the oldest in Covent Garden; many also believe it to be the oldest in London. It started as an inn in the 16th century. The pub is popular with both city center workers, and in-the-know tourists.
9.)Hyde Park
London’s most popular park. This upcoming Summer, Hyde Park is the location of two Olympic competitions, the Olympic Triathlon and Marathon Swimming competitions. I’m looking forward to having a relaxing day at the Park during our time in London.
10.)The London Zoo
Since opening in 1828, the zoo has sought to improve the well-being of its animals, housed in 13 listed buildings over 36 acres. More than 750 species are represented, from insects to giraffes, including a large collection of reptiles. I am excited to see England’s newest and largest penguin pool, Penguin Beach.
